CHICAGO NETMINDER CAROLINE HURST PAVES WAY TO VICTORY WITH SHUTOUT.

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — The Chicago Mission scored five unanswered goals and goaltender Caroline Hurst recorded a shutout to capture the Girls Tier I 14U National Championship at Advent Health Center Ice on Sunday.

“At the beginning of the season we said we wanted to win a national championship,” said Shannon Coleman, head coach of the Chicago Mission. “The past couple weeks we said we have to win six, and we won all six. This is the greatest group you could ever coach.”

Assabet Valley nearly took the lead in the first period when Mia Daley slated a pass across the slot for Paisley Meyer, but her shot dinged the crossbar.

Chicago found the back of the net on the power play 1:38 into the middle frame when Helen Lane buried a rebound from Sophia Monaco to take a 1-0 lead.
