Chicago Mission Accepted into Inaugural USA Hockey Development League; Announces 2027–28 Coaching Staff

CHICAGO, IL — Chicago Mission Hockey Club is proud to announce its acceptance into the inaugural USA Hockey Development League for the 2027–28 season, fielding teams at the 15U and 17U levels. This opportunity marks an exciting next chapter in Mission’s commitment to developing elite hockey players and preparing them to advance to the next level.

To lead this initiative, Chicago Mission has assembled a coaching staff built around shared expertise, clear responsibilities and a unified approach to player development. Gino Cavallini will continue to serve as President and Hockey Director of the Club while assuming the role of Director of USA Hockey Development League teams. In addition, Gino will serve as an Associate Head Coach on both the 15U and 17U teams. Joe Caprio will be the Head Coach of the 17U DL team and John Doherty will be the Head Coach of the 15U DL team. Nick DeSalvo will continue to serve as the club’s Director of Player Advancement.

All four staff members will be rostered on both teams, with coaching responsibilities crossing over between the 15U and 17U groups. While each will have a defined area of focus, they will work collectively to provide consistent instruction, coordinated support and a cohesive experience for players and families.

This collaborative structure reflects Chicago Mission’s belief that player advancement is best supported by a connected staff working toward shared goals. The program will emphasize individual development, accountability and preparation for the demands of higher levels of hockey.

Chicago Mission looks forward to joining the inaugural USA Hockey Development League and building on its commitment to helping players realize their athletic potential.
