Blackhawks Agree To Terms With Mission Alum Alex Vlasic

The Chicago Blackhawks today announced the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Alex Vlasic on a three-year entry-level contract that runs through the 2023-24 season ($824,167 salary cap hit). A native of Wilmette, Vlasic is scheduled to arrive in Chicago tomorrow and will join the Blackhawks Thursday. He was originally selected by the Blackhawks in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.

“It’s rare to find a player of Alex’s skill level and size and we look forward to him continuing his development path with our club,” said Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson. “His steady development at Boston University was noticeable and encouraging as we chart his future with our team. I know Alex shares our excitement in bringing him back home to Chicago to begin his professional hockey career.”

At 6-feet-6-inches, Vlasic recently completed his junior year at Boston University where he played in 32 games while scoring eight points (1G, 7A) and led the team with 51 blocked shots. He served as assistant captain this season and was recently named a Hockey East Conference All-Star. Vlasic closes out his three-year college career with 20 points (4G, 16A) in 82 games with the Terriers.

He represented the United States at the 2019 World Junior Championships, appearing in seven games and tallying one assist while helping the team to a bronze medal. Prior to joining Boston University, he spent two seasons (2017-19) with the United States NTDP team where he played in 122 games, scoring 13 goals and adding 43 assists.

Alex has three family members with ties to the sport. His sister, Emma, was the captain of the Yale hockey team and currently plays for the Connecticut Whale of the Premier Hockey Federation. His brother, Eric, was named 2016 Player of the Year with the Chicago Blackhawks Special Hockey Program. His cousin, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, currently plays for the San Jose Sharks.

CONGRATULATIONS ALEX!
